How to Seal Block Paving to Stop Weeds

If you've noticed your block paving is being invaded by persistent weeds, it’s time to take action.

At Swiss Seal, we're passionate about helping homeowners care for their outdoor spaces. With over 30 years of expertise, we’ve become a trusted name in surface protection and restoration.

Read on to discover how our clear block paving sealers and colour tinted block paving sealers can work to transform your space and keep it weed free.

WHY SEAL YOUR BLOCK PAVING WITH A BLOCK PAVING SEALER?

One of the biggest challenges of maintaining block paving is dealing with weeds growing in the gaps.

Left unchecked, these weeds can damage the structure over time. Sealing block paving with a clear block paving sealer or colour tinted block paving sealer creates a protective barrier that prevents weed seeds from germinating.

Beyond weed control, colour tinted and clear block paving sealers also:

  • Protect against weathering and UV damage
  • Enhance the colour and finish of your paving

REDUCE MAINTENANCE BY PREVENTING STAIN AND MOSS BUILDUP

If you're looking for a long-lasting solution, our colour tinted or clear block paving sealers are the perfect answer.

WHY OUR SHAKE TO WAKE SEALERS ARE DIFFERENT

At Swiss Seal, we’ve taken the hassle out of sealing projects with our Shake to Wake range. Our pre-mixed, ready-to-use products mean there’s no messy mixing or guesswork involved. Simply shake the container and apply!

With easy application and consistent results, our clear and colour tinted block paving sealers guarantee a professional finish every single time.

HOW TO APPLY YOUR BLOCK PAVING SEALER

Follow these simple steps to achieve flawless results:
1. Clean the Surface
Before applying the block paving sealer, Use a weedkiller on any growth and allow sufficient time to kill the roots. Remove dirt, debris, and any stains. For the best finish, thoroughly pressure-wash the surface to ensure it’s clean and ready for sealing.
2. Allow the Surface to Dry
Wait until the paving is completely dry before applying the colour tinted or clear block paving sealers. Applying to wet or damp surfaces can trap moisture, leading to a cloudy finish.
3. Apply a Jointing Sand
Sweep over kiln dried sand to fill the gaps in between the block pavers. This is important as the sealer will stabilise the sand and prevent weeds from penetrating these gaps.
4. Apply the Sealer Evenly
Use a roller or sprayer for even application of block paving sealer. Start with a thin layer and allow it to dry before adding a second coat if needed. Only apply when there is no forecast of rain for at least 8 hours.
5. Avoid Heavy Use Until Dry
Allow the sealed surface enough time to dry and cure. Drying times may vary based on weather conditions and the type of block paving sealer, so always check the product instructions for guidance.

MAINTAINING YOUR SEALED BLOCK PAVING

Once sealed, block paving becomes easier to maintain with just a few key tips:

  • Sweep Regularly to prevent debris buildup and potential staining.
  • Remove Stains Immediately to keep the surface looking pristine.
  • Reseal Every 1–3 Years, depending on traffic and weather exposure, to maintain protection and appearance.
